Government announce overhaul of ‘broken’ housing complaints system

The newly announced Housing Complaints Resolution Service will be created to help both homeowners and tenants to know where to go when things go wrong. For first time ever, private landlords will also be legally required to join a housing redress scheme – with a fine of up to £5,000 if they fail to do so.
 
NALS believes that for too long consumers have faced difficulty identifying where to take their property related complaints because each redress scheme has their own specialism. We welcome Government’s recognition that this must change. 
 
Plans for the Housing Complaints Resolution Service and bringing landlords into a redress scheme are positive moves which will help to improve the private rented sector. NALS looks forward to contributing to the development of the new service.
